Halle Berry was born on August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the daughter of Judith Ann and Jerome Jesse Berry. Due to her parents divorce, Berry was mainly raised by her mother and was estranged from her father from a young age. She entered many beauty contests in the 1980’s and eventually won the Miss Teen All-American and Miss Ohio USA.In the late 1980’s, Berry went to Chicago to pursue a modeling and acting career. Her role in 2001’s film Monster’s Ball awarded her the National Board of Review and the Screen Actors Guild prizes. Berry also made history by becoming the first African-American woman to receive a Best Actress Academy Award. On April 3, 2007, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is currently dating French-Canadian supermodel Gabriel Aubry. He is ten years her junior. Berry confirmed in 2007 that she was pregnant with Aubry’s child. In October 2007 it was revealed that Halle had received racist death threats to her unborn baby. Halle hired security guards after she received several anonymous threatening letters. One note warned she and her child would be "cut into hundreds of pieces".
On March 2007, Halle admitted she had attempted suicide after the end of her relationship with David Justice, a baseball player with the Atlanta Braves.
Halle is a big fan of Britney Spears.
Halle won a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award (Best Actress) for her role in Monster's Ball.
Halle was named one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" in People Magazine in 2004. 2004 was the eighth time Halle had appeared on the list, tying with Julia Roberts for the most appearances.
Halle's first $1 million salary for a film was for Executive Decision in 1996. She originally refused the part .... until she was offered $1 million.
She is one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood and also a Revlon spokeswoman.
Halle was listed as a potential nominee on the 2004 Razzie Award nominating ballot. She was suggested in the Worst Actress category for her performance in the film Gothika. She failed to receive a nomination however. The very next year though (2004), she got a nomination for Worst Actress in the film Catwoman.
